Counselling Approaches

Tyra Smith RSW

Registered Social Worker

As a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I specialize in supporting young children, teens, young adults, and their families through creative, trauma-informed, and play-based approaches. My strengths-based practice integrates play and art therapy methods to help clients express themselves, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills.

My sessions are tailored to each individual’s developmental needs and interests, balancing structure with creativity. I believe that meaningful change begins with connection – by fostering trust, collaboration, and respect, I aim to create a space where individuals feel safe to explore their emotions and experiences. In my office, everyone is welcome to play, explore, and create in a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.

Using art, movement, and imaginative play, I create opportunities for individuals to engage in healing
and personal growth.

Much of my professional experience has been gained through direct, in-home, and community-based work across rural and West-Central Saskatchewan. I have supported children, youth, and families experiencing complex emotional, behavioural, medical, and social challenges, including those affected by trauma, systemic barriers, and limited access to services. My work has focused on building safety and stability, reducing risk, and promoting long-term resilience and healthy development through collaboration with families, schools, and community supports.

I have spent much of my career supporting neurodivergent children and youth, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and developmental or learning differences. I am committed to providing inclusive, culturally responsive care that celebrates diversity and belonging. My goal is to ensure that everyone feels seen, respected, and welcome in my office.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, sewing, ice skating, and weightlifting, as well as connecting with friends and family.
