Youth Addictions Worker

Clear Health Solutions is a Saskatchewan-based organization dedicated to delivering high-quality, person-centred health and social services. We build programs and systems that bring real support to individuals, families, and communities — with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and impact.

Sheltering Wings Foundation is a division of Clear Health Solutions committed to investing in positive outcomes for people in need of support. Our work ensures that those who are most vulnerable have a place to call home, that families have the support they need to care for their children, and that individuals and families have access to the programs and resources that will help them reach their full potential. Rooted in Saskatoon and serving communities across Saskatchewan, Sheltering Wings is where this role comes to life.

Position Overview

The Youth Addictions Worker is a front-line residential position responsible for delivering direct care, programming, and therapeutic support to youth residing in Sheltering Wings Youth Transitonal Residential programs. The Youth Addictions Worker is a consistent, trusted presence in the home — someone who builds genuine relationships with youth, maintains clear expectations, and responds to complex situations with both compassion and structure.

This role is not passive support. The successful candidate understands that stability, routine, and relationship are themselves therapeutic — and shows up for every shift prepared to model that.

This position requires the ability to work a rotating shift schedule including evenings, weekends, and overnight rotations within a 24/7 residential care environment.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Client Support

  • Provide consistent, relationship-based care to youth residing in Sheltering Wings Youth Transitional Residential Programs.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with youth, clinical staff, and the residential team.
  • Apply harm reduction principles and trauma-informed approaches in all interactions within the residential environment.
  • Support youth in building daily living skills, emotional regulation, and pro-social behaviours.
  • Assist youth in navigating treatment programming, appointments, and community resource connections as part of their residential plan.
  • Respond to and document crisis situations within the home, providing de-escalation, stabilization, and safety planning.

Residential Environment & Programming

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic home environment consistent with Sheltering Wings policies and licensing standards.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate structured programming, group activities, and life skills sessions within the residence.
  • Support the daily routines of youth in care including meals, hygiene, school attendance, and recreational activities.
  • Model healthy boundaries, positive communication, and consistent expectations within the home.
  • Transport youth to appointments, programming, and approved activities as required.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, timely case notes and documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Complete required reports, outcome tracking, and data collection as directed.
  • Contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all privacy legislation requirements including HIPA and applicable provincial regulations.

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with clinical supervisors, program staff, and external service providers across both Clear Health Solutions and Sheltering Wings.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions.
  • Contribute to a positive, solution-focused team culture aligned with organizational values.
  • Support students, practicum learners, or new staff as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Addictions Counselling, Psychology, or a related human services field is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and lived or professional experience will be considered — particularly lived experience with addiction, mental health, or the child welfare system.

Experience

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working directly with youth in a residential, addictions, mental health, or social services setting.
  • Demonstrated experience applying trauma-informed frameworks in direct care environments.
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing, Contingency Management, or structured behavioural support approaches is a strong asset.
  • Experience in a 24/7 residential program setting is an asset.

Certifications & Requirements

  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
  • Clean driver’s abstract.
  • Current Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Naloxone (SAVE) training — or willingness to complete prior to first unsupervised shift.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI or equivalent) — or willingness to complete within first 90 days.
  • First Aid / CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • ASIST or safeTALK suicide intervention training is an asset.

Working Conditions

This is a residential group home position operating within a 24/7 therapeutic environment. The Youth Addictions Worker will:

  • Work rotating shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and overnight rotations.
  • Operate within a team-based shift model with structured handover protocols.
  • Work within a residential home environment that may involve managing challenging behaviours, acute substance uses presentations, and emotionally intense situations.
  • Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
  • Participate in monthly clinical supervision, team debriefings, and ongoing training as part of the regular work schedule.

What We Offer

Clear Health Solutions and Sheltering Wings are building something different — a residential model grounded in evidence, guided by genuine values, and designed to sustain the people who do this work. We offer:

  • A leadership team that came from the builder seat — and genuinely believes that the people doing this work deserve to be supported as well as the youth they serve.
